Riot reveals major Valorant event: First Strike

The competition will have regional tournaments in territories around the world.
Kieran Harris 23 September 2020

Valorant, Riot's entry into the world of hero shooters, is getting its first competition of note, with Riot Games confirming First Strike. The competition will feature regional tournaments around the world, including North America, Europe, and Asia, before culminating in a series of Riot-hosted events in early December.

First Strike is actually Riot's second Valorant event, after the Ignition Series earlier this year. This second effort looks like a significant step up for the game, with both pro teams and talented amatuers ready to battle each other for a place in the regional finals, starting on December 3. The competition starts in October, although more specific details haven't been shared at the time of writing.

"Valorant is a deeply competitive title with global appeal and the necessary elements to become the next premier esport," senior director of esports, Whalen Rozelle, wrote. "First Strike will provide our thriving competitive ecosystem with the platform to showcase their greatness, build regional legacy, and a foundation that will support the esport for years to come."
