PUBG Mobile announce largest prize pool in esports history

The hope is to make PUBG Mobile the first tier-one mobile esports.
Ben Lyons Senior Editor 25 November 2020

PUBG Mobile has revealed a $14 million prize pool for its 2021 esports program - the largest in mobile esports in history. Set to follow on from the PUBG Mobile Global Championship, which started yesterday (November 24), the funding will ensure the 2021 program is better than ever, as it will be able to include seven new regions: CIS, Turkey, Western Europe, Arabia, North America, Latin America, and Brazil.

The 2021 program is set to split the competitive year into two seasons as it did for 2020, seeing the PUBG Mobile Global Championship at the end of the year. PUBG Mobile also intends to use this round of funding to build more studios across the globe, following the initial one built in Katowice in partnership with ESL.

"2020 has been an incredibly special year for us as we've expanded in all aspects and completed our amateur to pro ecosystem, but this was only the beginning," said James Yang, Director of PUBG MOBILE Global Esports. "We have huge ambitions to become a tier 1 esports and stand shoulder to shoulder with the biggest games in the world, not just to break boundaries within mobile esports."

"The huge increase in the prize pool is representative of the growth we foresee in 2021. In western regions in particular there's huge room for expansion and I couldn't be more excited for the future of PUBG MOBILE esports."
