Overwatch League's 2022 season will still be played on Overwatch 2, despite the game's latest delay

It will serve as a look into the game's development according to a statement from OWL PR.

A few days ago, Blizzard made the decision to delay both Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV once more, seemingly pushing both games to 2023. This decision begged the question as to whether the Overwatch League would still be playing its 2022 season on Overwatch 2, especially if the game would not be released at all in the next calendar year.

Well, according to a statement provided by OWL PR to Dot Esports Liz Richardson, this is still very much the plan.

"What's cool is the next season of the Overwatch League will give the community a fantastic view into the development team's planned direction for the franchise before experiencing the content for themselves."

The statement continued, "As we get closer to preseason, we'll have dates and locations to share."

With the next season slated to begin in April 2022, we'll have to see what Overwatch 2 will look like by this point, and whether its pre-launch state will affect the integrity of competitive play at all.
