Nintendo has revealed that as part of the 2022 Play! Pokémon Championship Series, Pokémon Go will be getting its inaugural Championship Series. Organised in collaboration with Niantic, the official circuit will begin next year and will be featured at selected events, including regional and international championships. The best Pokémon Go players at the events that the title is featured at will be given an invitation to the 2022 Pokémon World Championships, although the format for these events have not yet been revealed.

It was mentioned in the press release that the Pokémon Go events will operate Senior and Master age divisions, but that more info on this, prize money, schedules, and more will be announced "soon".

In terms of the grander Pokémon Championship Series, the press release also revealed that any players who partook in the 2020 season (which was ultimately cancelled), will get their points transferred to the 2022 season.

The 2022 season will also be played on Pokémon The Card Game, Pokémon Sword/Shield, Pokkén Tournament DX, and Pokémon Go as well. We're told to expect more details on the scene will be announced soon as well.
